Choosing an antler chandelier can sometimes
feel a little overwhelming as they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
When working with these kinds of lamps, we have
at Qubita, have acquired a few rules that we like to go by. So, don’t worry, we
are here to help!
RULE 1: DIAMETER OF ANTLER CHANDELIERS
We all know
that a room with a too small chandelier doesn’t do anyone any favors, it will
most likely just go unnoticed as the room swallows up its existence.
Having a
too big one is just as much of a problem as it instead makes the room feel
small or cramped when the chandelier takes up all the eye space.
Thankfully
we have the perfect way to calculate of how big your chandelier should be.
1.
Measure the rooms length and width
2.
Add the length and the width
3.
For each meter, add 8 cm to the
diameter of the chandelier.
So, to make
things clearer let us give you an example.
1. The room: 9 x 5 m
2. 9 + 5= 14
3. 14 x 8 = 112 cm
Therefore,
if you have a room that is 9 x 5 meters you should go for a chandelier that is
around 112 cm in diameter.
RULE 2: HANGING HEIGHT OF ANTLER CHANDELIERS
In an open room (not over a table)
The bottom of the chandelier should generally be 210–230 cm from the floor.
In rooms with higher ceilings, you can raise it further to maintain proportion:
- Ceiling 2.7 m → bottom around 210–215 cm
- Ceiling 3.0 m → bottom around 220–230 cm
For very high ceilings, designers often add a chain or drop so it does not feel lost.
RULE 3: HEIGHT OVER DINING ROOM TABLES
When
hanging antler chandeliers over a table it should hang further down, as it is
meant to accent the table.
The diameter should be chosen according to the width of the table it’s going to hang over. A good rule to go by is that it should be either half or two thirds of the table width.
- Recommended height above the table: 75–90 cm
(Measured from the tabletop to the lowest point of the chandelier.)
This range keeps the antlers from blocking sightlines while still giving a strong visual presence.
RULE 4: "YOU DO YOU", SURPRISE YOURSELF
There are
no rules as to where it is fit to hang an antler chandelier, if you want to
hang one in your office, go for it! If it feels like a good idea to put one in
the nursery, don’t hesitate, be unique! After all it is your home or your space
and you can express yourself and decorate it how you want. Or why not paint the
chandelier in some bold color if you want it to give off a more modern look.
The options are endless and the sky (or the ceiling?!) is the limit!
